If you love Thai food, then we hope you’re as excited as we are for the opening of Downtown Cranford’s newest restaurant, 8 Thai at 103 Miln Street! Owner Sudkate (Nick) Yaiphairot owns other restaurants in the area but was looking to open in Cranford. He brought in his friend Chatchai (Ton) Chutmongkonkul and told him about his vision of a Thai-French fusion restaurant. As soon as Nick saw the space was available he jumped at the chance to lease it.

Ton had previously worked in Westfield but wasn’t familiar with Cranford. Once he began coming to town he immediately saw why Nick had been so eager to open here. “My first impression was that there are always a lot of people walking around, and the downtown is very lively,” said Ton. “Cranford also has a great restaurant scene and we felt we would really fit in well.”

The head chef, Pawee Sophikulphong, brings a Thai-French background to 8 Thai. She created a menu that incorporates more fusion than a typical Thai restaurant. Customers will still find their favorites on the menu though, including Pad Thai, Tom Yum Soup, Drunken Noodles, Curry dishes, and more. They can choose from a variety of proteins, and spiciness levels can be adjusted to preference.

Formerly home to a pizzeria, the space at 103 Miln has been transformed into an open, modern restaurant. “We want people to feel comfortable here, and know that they can take their time and enjoy their meal,” said Ton. Currently 8 Thai offers take-out and dine-in and is open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is BYOB, and in addition to its savory offerings it also serves desserts, including Thai Tea Crème Brulee. You can see additional information from the restaurant, including their menu, on their website: https://www.8thainj.com/.
