“If your pizza isn’t good, you won’t make it here.” Cranford Square customer Ziggy spoke those words of wisdom earlier today while enjoying a slice of pepperoni pizza. It’s no secret that Cranford has a variety of pizza restaurants and everyone has their favorite. Now, pizza lovers will have a new spot to try out with the highly anticipated Cranford Square opening its doors at 101 Miln Street, across the street from the Post Office.

Billy D’Angelo is one of Cranford Square’s four owners, each of whom brings a unique skillset to the restaurant. “This is really a passion project for myself and Chris, one of the partners and a close friend,” said Billy. “The opportunity to do this for our kids was the genesis of Cranford Square.” The square pie is described as a hybrid of Sicilian and Detroit style.

“This is pizza dough fermented with patience,” said Billy. “It doesn’t weigh you down and it’s made with the highest quality ingredients.” Billy and his partners worked on sourcing the best ingredients, making everything at Cranford Square fresh. Customers can order a square or round pie, or pick up a slice. Cranford Square also offers sandwiches, including Meatball, Spicy Chicken Vodka Parm, and Chicken Ricotta Picante. Billy’s favorite pizza? The pizza of the day, which is a collaboration between the head chef and manager. Today’s creation was Eggplant Caponata, which was a hit with customers and staff alike.

Though Cranford Square only opened on Monday, it was already hopping at lunchtime today. A number of people ordered a few different slices to try out and gave thumbs up on everything they tried. “When we came to Cranford, I fell in love with the town right away,” said Billy. “It has a strong sense of community and everyone has been so welcoming and friendly.” As if to prove his point, two Downtown Cranford business owners stopped by during lunchtime on Tuesday to try the pizza and introduce themselves.
