Yesterday, members of the DMC Board, Township Committee, Cranford Area Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Cranford office officially welcomed Mateo’s Bakery And Restaurant to town! Mateo’s is owned by Luis, Jose, and Luisa and serves up a fusion of Peruvian and Colombian cuisine.

The restaurant’s bakery case is filled with Colombian specialties including Chicharron de Guayaba (guava paste pastry), Pan de Queso (Colombian cheese rolls), Arepas de Choclo (sweet corn cakes), Empanadas, and more. For those looking for savory options, Mateo’s is currently offering a special menu through the weekend where diners can sample three dishes for $19.95. Customers can choose from a selection of dishes including Ceviche, Lomo Saltado (steak stir fry), Arroz Chaufa (Peruvian fried rice), Chicharron con Toston y Guacamole (Fried Pork Belly with Plantains), and more. Mateo’s will be adding items to their menu as the weeks go on, so people should feel free to stop back in to try out the new additions.

Mateo’s is located at 17 North Ave East and can be reached by calling 908-966-8100. The restaurant is open 6 days a week, closed only on Tuesdays. The owners had their sights set on Cranford as where they wanted to open their business and are excited to open their doors. “We have a lot of friends in the area and believe that a Peruvian and Columbian restaurant is something that’s unique to the area,” they said. We’re so happy that they chose Cranford and we know Mateo’s will receive a warm welcome from the neighborhood! You can view their menu here.
