Last week Downtown Cranford held a ribbon cutting for Maktoob by Lola, located at 19 Alden Street. Maktoob by Lola is owned by Farah and specializes in design services and promotional products. Farah chose the name “Maktoob” for her business as Maktub means “it is written.” After leaving her previous jobs and taking the leap to start her own business, Farah embraced the belief that she has found her destiny.
Farah has a graphic design background and started designing tumblers during the pandemic. She believes that she wouldn’t have been successful without community support. “Track 5 started selling my tumblers, which was my biggest break,” said Farah. “I’ve also sold them at Baron Drugs and Better Me Juicery.”
Farah was excited to make the transition to being a small business owner after previously working for others. “I love that this gives me the freedom to be creative,” said Farah. “The reward for all my hard work is when I see how positively people react to the products.”
Though the business started with customizable tumblers, Maktoob by Lola has expanded into other offerings. Farah will work with corporate customers who are looking for promotional items, including pens, notebooks, mouse pads, and more. Other customers reach out for favors for events including bridal showers, children’s parties, and more. The shelves in her showroom are stocked with items for children, adults, and even pets.
“I’ve lived in Cranford for 4 years and I feel so welcome here,” said Farah. “I really feel at home here and once my business is more established I look forward to paying it forward.”
Maktoob by Lola is currently open Tuesday through Saturday, 10-6. During the holiday season the store will also be open on Sundays. You can contact the store by calling 908-484-6622, visit their website www.maktoobbylola.com, and also find them on social media.
