Yesterday afternoon, Downtown Cranford held the ribbon cutting for its Little Free Library! Located by the gazebo, this Little Free Library was a true community effort that wouldn’t have come about without the following people and organizations:
The Artist Framer
Cranford Hotel Restaurant and Pub
The DMC Board
MWT Builders LLC
Commissioner Mary O’Connor
Steven Manginelli Electrical Contracting Inc
Think Outside the Cube
Township of Cranford
The Vinokur Family
A plaque will be placed at the library that will read “Together we celebrate the joy of reading to build our community and inspire imaginations.”
Grace Vinokur will serve as the Downtown Cranford Little Free Library steward. During the pandemic, Grace and her family would often visit Little Free Libraries and she felt that it would be nice to have a little free library in Cranford that offered a curated and diverse selection. Grace approached Downtown Cranford with her idea and in collaboration with Downtown Cranford Director Caren Demyen, the idea began to take shape.
“A Little Free Library can serve as a central point in a community,” said Grace. “It can be incorporated into events and encourages people to walk downtown and explore. I’m so happy to see the Little Free Library brought to life and have no doubt that it will be embraced by the community.”
The public is invited to stop by the Little Free Library to borrow or lend books. We also extend our thanks to Broadway BookLady for donating books to help stock the Little Free Library!
